The Spousal Unit said yesterday that she’d bought a planter for the strawberries. I thought that was nice, but didn’t really think about it. Last year we bought two varieties of strawberries and put them in hanging pots. The pots ended up on a shelf outside a bedroom. The strawberries Mrs. L.A. chose didn’t do very well, but the ones I did sent out runners so I directed them to the other pot. And we pretty much forgot about them. They’d survive Winter, or they wouldn’t. This morning I noticed that after the freezing temperatures and snow, they’re coming back very well. There’s one bloom and several buds. So that’s why she bought a planter!
There’s a concrete basin next to a pipe that I presume was a well at one time. I planted strawberries in it four or five years ago. They never produced well; and what fruits that did grow, were eaten by squirrels before we could get to them. They die off in Winter and bounce back in Spring. They’re not rebounding as well as they did the last couple of years, but they’re coming back too.
This morning I shredded a couple of red potatoes, and the hashbrowns are nearly done. The bacon is cooked. Just hae to put on the eggy-wegs.
The back yard is mowed. It’s overcast now (1:30) and Accuweather says rain will arrive around 5. FCD is snoozing on the recliner. I think I’ll play some tablet games for a while.
We were definitely looking ahead when we put grab bars and hand-held shower heads in our bathrooms. Now we just need an elevator to the basement.
I’m getting paranoid. I’ve suddenly started receiving spam text messages. I don’t click on them, but one of them tried to entice me with the first few words, “Amazon: Jose, your order…” My name is not José. Amazon texts come from Amazon. So of course I’ll ignore it. Still, I keep thinking about my SSN being on the Dark Web and wondering if there’s a connection. Am I going to have to check my bank accounts daily? I know I don’t have to pay for fraudulent credit card purchases, but an SSN can do a lot of damage. I do have my credit card carrier notify me for transactions over $50.
I don’t like webs. I don’t like the dark.
No plans for today other than a walk and general Nellie maintenance. Also, I may launder sheets.
taters, I’m mystified as to how parcels wind up in Washuogal when nothing else does. I’ve been through there or at least by there, and I still had to look it up. Be careful with the mandolin. I just about sliced off my fingertip when I had one, and I know two other people who had the same experience. But I’m a klutz, and you’re undoubtedly much more coordinated.
Howdy Y’all! Been a day of rain/tstorms/apocalypse. A tornado touched down briefly about four miles from da cave, but we’re fine. The power went out for a bit this mornin’ and right now a biiiiiiiiiiiiiig tstorm is happenin’. Good day to be inside and dry. Have not even gone and most likely not go down to the mailbox to check for mail. Burgers did not happen due to the oh so heavy rains and wind. Instead I made quesadillas. This gave me an opportunity to add extra tomato and sour cream to OYKW’s quesadilla and call him “Hon” while doin’ so. He asked me if this was ever goin’ away and I replied not for a while yet.
Sorry for the woes some of y’all are havin’ with banks, deliveries, possible ss issues and so forth. None of those things are fun. It’s been a good while since I’ve had any problem with debit or credit cards and such. Of course I probably just jinxed myself.
Hmmm… sounds like the tstorm has passed over, but heavy rain continues. No doubt there will be a flash flood watch before the day is over.
Rain has started here - barely more than a drizzle so far. I had a bowl of veggie-beef soup for supper. FCD had a bowl of raw broccoli and dressing. Higgs had kibble.
I’m pretty sure the balance of the evening is for chillage. I’ll put whatever dishes remain into the dishwasher before bed, but that’s as productive as I intend to be. I think I’ve done enough today.
Late afternoon all. Rain stopped and the sun came out about noon, but we just had a passing thundershower so the rains aren’t done with us yet. Pretty much a day of sloth here, I salute VanGo for his step-building
nellie, might just be a coincidence, I’ve been getting a call about reducing my Direct TV bill, but something about it just doesn’t seem right, so I hang up. No idea what you do about your SSN, can you report it to some Government unit?
FCM, glad the 'puters are almost back to working shape.
And now I need to think about dinner. All y’all take care.
It’s been a bit of a nervous week for me. I saw the doc last week for a wellness checkup and told him about my back problems. He decided to do a urinalysis and PSA to see if there were any problems and it came back with small amounts of white blood cells in the urine and the PSA showed high. Since this could indicate prostate cancer (among other things), he wanted a retest that was more thorough. So I waited most of the week for that, and much to my relief the retests came back negative. Very relieved.
It’s a drizzly day in the PNW, so not much going on around the homestead. I made blueberry cornmeal pancakes for breakfast, and we’re having some sort of Southwestern-influenced casserole that involves corn tortillas for dinner.
Best of luck to those with banking and ID woes. That stuff truly sucks.
Groceries are bought and put away, laundry done and supper et. I was hungry for wings and Fazoli’s was advertising them as a new item. It had been ~20 years since I’ve been there, so I ordered the parm garlic ones and a salad. Not terrible, but not fantastic and overpriced to boot. An order of 5 with a salad came to fourteen dollars and change.
Egads! Thor is very unhappy today. Severe tstorm warnin’s and the accompanyin’ tstorms one right after the other! Also, another tornado warnin’ on the other side of the county and near the church. No damage however, as said tornado passed over but did not touch down so I’m told. This front can go away any time now. GEEZ!
Today wasn’t actually so bad. Everyone is tired and burnt out, so we all let each other slide and stuff. The manager is super-appreciative and makes sure we hear it (which I, in turn, appreciate!) and we got a bunch of random free stuff a couple of days ago, which - quite literally - helps take the edge off the extra work.
Plus, I was inside today (packing orders) for the first time in a while, and will be again tomorrow. They want me to get experience on the sales floor now that it’s open, and I did, in fact, complete one (1) full sale today. Go me!
Personally, it’s just a nice change of pace. Plus, less worrying about dressing for the weather.
Anyway, I’m getting sleepy - dinner was fried chicken from a shack conveniently between work & home, and open till midnight - so I shall see y’all in the morning.
it’s weird in la /and so cal in general a lot of Muslims own corner liquor stores … and you’d be asking about the difference between this and that and you’d get "we have never drank alcohol " one place even had it on the door …
FCM one day you’ll need to come out to CA and unravel all the cords from my 6 game console’s pc and printer …it might actually get done … some of us try once or twice a year and about an hour in we give up … and glad spouse made it home …
I’ll take some of that rain. It’s been really dry here, so it means I have to water the new plants.
Made a rhubarb meringue dessert, which I haven’t made in years. It’s one of the first things my mom makes when the rhubarb is ready for picking, but I don’t normally make it as my hubby doesn’t like rhubarb. A friend was supposed to come over for dinner, so I planned to make it, and then she canceled due to stress-related zombieness (she didn’t sleep well). So I made it anyway. Would have been prettier if the rhubarb had more red, but it tastes GOOD.
Of course I forgot it was in the fridge and made myself a cup of müesli, so I’m not having rhubarb meringue for breakfast.
We did more prepping for the patio project, which included going to Ikea for shelving. The parking lot was approximately ⅓ empty, which I consider unusual for a sunny Saturday. Normally there would be few, if any empty parking spots. We went directly to the warehouse portion and were in and out in less than 30 minutes.
Shelves have been built, put in place and stuff has been sorted out. Need to buy some new garden gloves the next time we’re at the mall and then I can throw out the old ones.
Today is again sunny, and we have to figure out some paperwork. Of course, as soon as one thing gets completed, another item appears on the to do list. That’s life.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 60 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 78 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization. I have ush duty and thus must be present for both services. “Hon” will come to the second service and then get us some McN.O.L. on his way back to da cave. Beyond that, who knows.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Another broken night and I ended up leaving the bed around 5:30 - right about the time FCD was crawling back in. I did make him take some pain meds - he complains about hurting but he doesn’t want to take the Oxy because of what it does to his gut. I understand, but I still remind him that he’s got pain meds for that reason. Anyway, I hope he gets some sleep. Wish I could get more than 2 or 3-hour unbroken stretches. Maybe next week…
Looks like the rain is done around here for today. We might see some sun later, might not. No plans to go anywhere. I should run the mop over the kitchen floor and both terlits could use some attention, brush-and-cleanser-wise. And maybe I’ll push the vacuum around. But not much on the agenda. Which is fine. shady, I’ll pass on the offer - I’ll de-spaghetti-fy here, but crawling around under the desk is not fun for my 67-y/o carcass…
I will try to make us a proper supper, altho he doesn’t seem to want to eat much. Maybe I’ll bake a few russets - he likes them.
Meanwhile, I must caffeinate. Then onward into the day!
According to hobbit lore, you therefore properly should be having rhubarb meringue for second breakfast, or possibly for lunch.
FTFY! (“fixed that for you”)
Alright, self. Yesterday wasn’t so bad, and that was a Saturday - traditionally a busy day. Today is Sunday, which is usually quiet.
Also, they pay you to do this stuff.
Now go fix yourself a comfort-food sammich (p.b. and mini marshmallows, a.k.a. the FlufferNutter only I don’t use fluff) and getcherself cleaned up … okay, and have a smoke … fine, play your zombie game … then get out there and SELL SOME WEED, DAMMIT!
Good morning. It’s another soggy one here. It rained or drizzled all day yesterday and think today will much of the same.
The saga of the hose reels continues. In twelve hours, they made it from Washuougal to Portland, which is literally a 30-minute drive. I’ve been to Washougal, my Dad was born there. Here’s the interesting thing. These packages traveled across the states via Hwy 2, and then dropped to Hwy 95, and then some other Hwy (14 I think), and are now way south of me. A more efficient route would have been Hwy 2 all the way to Interstate 5. So now this package is south of me when it started north of me. Who knows when I’ll see these damn things. I am really annoyed and now they’re not even providing me with an estimated delivery date. FED EX SUCKS BIG OL’ DONKEY TESTICLES. I really hate them. Every time they are delivering a package to me it is LATE. EVERY SINGLE STINKIN’ TIME.
Ugh.
Today will probably consist of chillage and chores. I did laundry yesterday so I’m caught up on that.
I’m sorry it was rough night for both you and FCD, FCM. I hear ya on the stubborn man thing. My husband refuses to go to the doctor for a variety of issues he is dealing with, including pain. He states he’ll make an appointment when I make an appointment for my knee and shoulder issues. He has a point, but on the other hand, he promised to do it last year too, when I did indeed make an appointment for my issues with dizziness and wooziness. They never figured it out and it’s not gone away, but that’s 'whole another gripe.
I think I’ll finish this cup of coffee and clean the kitchen. I’m feeling antsy and doing some chores may calm that feeling down.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. The shower water felt weird this morning. Not Waters of Mars weird, like it had been run through a water softener.
