Which computer game would you like to see remade?

I would love to see the first three Syphon Filter games remade.

Another vote for System Shock 2. Apparently someone is making a fan-remake but I’m skeptical. There was some video on YouTube a few months ago about a big reveal (the one on Deck 4), which spent way too much time showing off effects at the expense of the actual story event. So, you know, like most modern remakes.

No One Lives Forever is another good one; I recommended it to my fiancee just last weekend. I didn’t realize it wasn’t available digitally, though. I’ll have to see if I can dig up my CD.

Are you aware of the Torment: Tides of Numenara fan game that is in development? Supposed to be released late this year (so probably mid-next year), and I don’t know how much of the original crew is involved, if any. And it’s a different story. But still, it might be good.

As for the original Planescape: Torment, I think a big part of what made the writing so excellent was that they didn’t have to do voice overs for most of it. If they had to make it to modern AAA standards, I think it would end up as a pale shadow of the original’s greatness. Of course, the same could be said for many of the games on this list. It would make me very sad to see System Shock 2 get the Thief treatment (or indeed the Bioshock treatment).

I would love to see *Morrowind *remade with graphics that don’t look like paper doll cutouts. I keep seeing teasers for fan-made versions using the *Oblivion *and *Skyrim *engines but they don’t seem to be going anywhere.

I wouldn’t say it’s a fan game. inXile Entertainment, while maybe not the largest video game company out there, was founded by one of the original co-founders of Interplay. And Black Isle Studios, which created PS:T was a division of Interplay back in the day. Granted, Fargo had left Interplay before that ship started to sink, but he probably had enough connections to the remnants of Interplay that acquiring the Torment rights wasn’t overly difficult, especially since the BIS that rose from the ashes of the original studio a few years back didn’t stick around very long.

And Monte Cook, who created Numenara, was actively involved in writing supplements for the Planescape setting back in the 2nd Edition AD&D days. He’s taking a fairly active role in the new Torment game.

The first Command and Conquer but using C&C3 or 4’s engine and units. Rather than pumping out a single rifleman at a time they would come out in squads.

C&C Renegade could use a graphics overhaul too. The hero character and all of his friends look like they’re made out of Lego.

I thought of another one that would be great with modern graphics and sensibilities: SimEarth. Imagine a Google Earth for a planet you could design.

Very cool! That’s very encouraging to hear. Thanks for the info.

I agree.

There is a version of Masters of Magic for Windows, available from Good Old Games.
It works perfectly.

An old console favorite from my college days: Mutant League Football. We had a Sega Genesis, but only like 3 games, and one of them was Tiny Toon Adventures (which was actually a decent game). So we played the shit out of MLF. Great fun. I believe it was based on the Madden game engine from the time; I’d love to see MLF made with the current Madden engine.

The original Myst and Riven. Modern OS are not compatible with these two and you really can’t play them anymore.

You’re welcome. I backed the kickstarter for inXile’s Wasteland 2 (having been a huge fan of the original when I first played it back in the late 80’s). Because W2’s campaign pulled in far more money than they expected, they were able to hire more people for it then they had originally planned, and that gave them the ability to start on another project after the initial stages of W2 were complete. They decided to do a sequel to PS:T and ended up going with Monte’s Numenera setting. Since Wasteland was planned out in stages, when one stage would be complete, those people would transition to Torment which was staggered behind W2.

They made the announcement about Torment to the original W2 kickstarter backers, and I immediately backed that as well. I’m actually looking forward to Torment more than I did both W2 and Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity (nee Project Eternity, and which I also backed on kickstarter).

Can we add to this post, games that are console only (or PC-only, for you console folk) that haven’t been made for PC (or console?)? E.g., I’d absolutely love to play Red Dead Redemption or The Last of Us, but since I don’t have a Xbox or PS, I can’t. I’ve heard of people crying at the denoument of those stories—hell, I cry, reading their wiki plot summaries.

They also sound like a ton of fun to play. (If there’s a crack where I can get these, in a PC-friendly format, do let me know. Thx.) And I know that Rockstar may deign to make a PC-port in 2016 for RDR.

Adding a third vote for Darklands. It’s such a fantastic game, with great atmosphere and background information.

And another vote for System Shock/System Shock 2 - the great disappointment of Bioshock, for me, was that it wasn’t another System Shock game.

And hey, did y’all see that Sony’s remaking FF7? Final Fantasy VII - E3 2015 Trailer | PS4 - YouTube

Racing Destruction Set

Been almost a decade since I had anything other than a laptop that wasn’t really gaming capable. I missed Door Kickers. Since I figure there’s a gaming capable desktop in my future for Fallout 4… I will have to remember it.

Yes Rainbow Six were pretty awesome early on too. I didn’t like them as well due to the AI at the time having a harder time indoors than outdoors. Too many times I wanted to frag my own team when they took 2 minutes to remember how to leave the room. A modern AI though…

Ancient Art of War series. An old pc GAME. I really loved playing at sea. Such a basic and fun game. Would be great with updated graphics.

The “Leisure Suit Larry” series.

Larry has been remade, only the Land of the Lounge Lizards though, not the whole series…

“Leisure Suit Larry: Reloaded is a point-and-click adventure game released on June 27, 2013 by N-Fusion Interactive, Intermarum and Replay Games working with series creator Al Lowe and IP holder Codemasters. The game is available for Microsoft Windows via Steam,[3] OS X, Linux,[4] Android and iOS. It is an enhanced remake of the 1987 Sierra On-Line adventure game Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. It is the second remake of this game, following the 1991 remake, which featured VGA graphics.”

I’d just like to be able to play Bubble Bobble, or the Lemmings games again. I could set up dosbox etc, but also think they’d make for good android games too…

You can get them through Steam. About a year or so ago I went through both again. Still love them.

Something tells me that a mobile version of Lemmings would result in a lot of phones broken in frustration.

I would love to see another sequel to Myst. Those were about the best games ever released IMHO.
