Best UK #1 single retrospective: 1954

Time for the second poll in this series. We haven’t gotten an awful lot of votes so far, mainly I suspect because few people are familiar with these songs, but we’re starting to advance towards the rock & roll era. 11 songs topped the charts in Britain this year.

What’s your favorite?

#1s vs. the Rest

Yay, I know some of these this year. Went for George Clooney’s Aunt Rosemary.

Reluctantly vote for Johnny Ray’s Such A Night though it cannot compare to the same song by Clyde McPhatter and the Drifters.

I’ll maybe give these a listen because none I am familiar with, except the artists listed.

Things will get better in subsequent polls.

Well the stand out for this year has to be Secret Love - Doris Day, this was an academy award winner, and deservedly so.
