Best UK #1 single retrospective: 1957

I waited a few days to post this because I wasn’t sure there was enough interest to keep this series going, but it looks like people are onboard after all.

The year is now 1957 and Elvis has finally made his way into the British charts. In the UK, he’ll go on to have more #1 hits than the Beatles, but he’s just getting started here. 14 songs made it to #1 this year.

What’s your favorite?

#1s vs. the Rest

Andy Williams, great voice. Interest will pick
Up as we move into newer decades.

Buddy Holly for sure this year, but a close second is Lonnie Donnigan’s Cumberland Gap which is sort of speed-country-skiffle. This is my mum’s music so I’m starting to recognise a lot more of these.

I went for Cumberland Gap, which was one of my mother’s favourites.
