I haven’t started many threads, so the pickings for me are pretty slim. But I’ll always have a soft spot for What’s the seediest hotel you’ve ever stayed in?, which got some great responses and seemed to be fun for folks. Maybe it should be restarted…
I likes ya. Ever since that shower picture, whenever I see your name, I start giggling.
Best picture* ever*.
My old roommate reads SDMB, but refuses to sign on. He wanted me to make a thread about Grampa Simpson, do I did. It took off like a suicide bomber van towards an Israeli cafe.
My most successful threads are, by far, the Annual Steelers March to the Super Bowl threads, three in all.
This year’s thread was clearly the most successful, you will note.
I think my most successful thread, rather embarrassingly, was an IMHO thread on how long people feel they can wear a pair of jeans between washings. That thing just took off like wildfire, but I think it’s gone now.
I once vented on a prepubescent private dancer of Caucasian persuasion.
I seriously did not foresee the popularity of that post. Something like 8,000 views in a week?
Like, 1/100,000,000th of what Dave Chappelle went through after “I’m Rick James, bitch!”
None of the money, either.
Most of my threads die before they get past the 30 reply mark, but the two that did best were
What’s the scariest story you ever read?
and
Is Blazing Saddles the funniest movie ever made?
Been Threadspotted once.
Interesting. A running commentary on England vs Brazil, June 2002.
I got a thread that was thread-spotted, so that’s pretty sucessful, right?
If you thought _____ was a sequel to ____ you’d be in for a movie-viewing shock
Going by high view counts these two are almost as high as the one above
questions about other countries that you’ve never gotten a straight answer to
The “How Many Would Be Scary?” Game
And this one wins for replies
but these (and “would be scary…”) are close
If one more person says/asks this, I’ll scream (add your own)
I know the thread, but your description of it just sounds so wrong.

Mine was a Secret Santa bragging thread from a few years ago. I was surprised the next one was Draw a pig.
This one was my most successful. It went to 3 pages, but nearly 6000 page views, a lot of emails to me supporting me or telling me their own stories they weren’t comfortable posting in public, and a few people even anticipating my big date and asking my relationship status months later (which I never answered since I didn’t see the thread re-pop up).
Two of mine were threadspotted. Insurance for the cataclysmically stupid and Tales of the Sweaty, Feculent Herd. Since the insurance thread got over 7,000 views, I’ll count that one as the most successful. I did do a second Tales of the Sweaty Feculent Herd, but it tanked. Such is the way of sequels.
Today marks my second threadspotted thread - one that I actually mentioned above:
The most popular one was the tale of my theiving assistant and the one about her subsequent firing, but the one I’m most proud of is this rant about the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.
I don’t think so - I remember that one fondly.
I suppose this is my most successful flame, although I have never made Threadspotting.
But my most successful thread, by my standards, is this one. Because, mostly, of the responses I got. Especially the poem.
Regards,
Shodan
This one about the Superflu got off to a false start, but then it went off like gangbusters.
You never know which threads will be successful or not. This one, by Velma, was about an unopened cooler in her backyard.
Then it grew…
From the first thread linked to in the OP
Now I’ve got 123 threads to my credit.
My recent thread in Great Debates regarding the Confederate Flag in public schools generated just two fewer posts than the aforementioned “Racist scholarships” thread.
Interestingly (or maybe not), over my posting lifetime here, I’ve averaged 16.5 replies per thread started. But I’ve become a better threadstarter, apparently…over the past year I’ve averaged 23.1 replies per thread started, and over the past six months, that number has increased to 33.33. I’ve had just three threads get more than 100 replies, while eight have recieved more than 50 (but less than 100). A dismal 72 threads I’ve started have gotten 10 or fewer replies.

I’ve had a few that I thought could have made it to threadspotting. For instance I started one titled “American TV came this close, ||, to their first Daddy/Daughter couple” Which I figured would make a lot of people go “What the hell!?.” So then they preview it and read “After all these weeks of courting her he ends up leaving her for his sister at the altar. I…” and now think “This can’t be real.” So they open it and find a thread on the latest Harvey Birdman. I was pretty proud of that one even if it only got 14 replies. Over 90 views per post.
I wouldn’t send in my own threads for threadspotting but I thought the thread where I wondered if other people use their imagination for entertainment and one where I was told a joke in a dream should have made it there. I was kinda sad my thread on squatting didn’t make it.
Actually I’d say I’m part of the problem. I’ve only submitted (racking memory, racking memory) … 2 threads in the 5 years I’ve been here. One made it, one didn’t. And probably the last one was a couple years ago.
