woot! lottery win is very much in the good column.
The calendar says we’re having our new windows installed tomorrow. We’ll be knee-deep in carpenters. They said they’ll be doing them sequentially, with only one gaping hole at a time. We’ll see. I hope it goes smoothly.
The current windows, apparently original, don’t seal well. Some won’t even close all the way.
Oh wow - all your windows?
Probably this is a good time of year to leave gaping house holes.
Hope it goes well for you.
I need to schedule window replacements for my house…or else sell and move into an apartment.
I considered doing half and then the other half.
I have
so
many
windows
Back in 2010 (I think) we did roof, windows, siding, and trim. Even tho we got fairly high-end vinyl windows, moisture has gotten between some panes, and there are assorted other small issues with others. I want to replace them all. Three tall windows, three average size, two bathroom windows, one large kitchen window, one bow window, and one sliding door. And this time want to replace the small basement windows, too. And add one solar tube to replace a small one. I figure it will cost a metric butt-load, so it’s not going to happen any time soon. But when I hit the lotto…
Ditches are mowed. I’ll drive John Deere around tomorrow. FCD and MIL just want fried mush for supper so I guess I’ll have leftover bean soup. Mush is boring.
And so it goes.
Howdy Y’all! ‘Twas rainy this mornin’ so I put off errand doin’s 'til tomorrow just cause I can. Thus much RDOS inactivity ensued. I did made late N.O.L./ early sup which was yum plus leftovers for tomorrow. Kitchen is all cleanded up and sloth resumes.
VanGo I hope whatever the problem is, it’s resolved soonest.
MOOOOOOM did you suffer through Priests who insisted on chanting even though they really, really, really shouldn’t? Makes for a painful Eucharist to sit through.
Flyboy while I don’t mind some praise music, that does seem excessive. Conga rats on the lotto win! That’ll buy a nice dinner out.
Legend indeed hooray for specialists who listen and talk to their patients.
CupCakes I say sic 'em! Seriously though, hope this gets worked out soonest. This sounds like their credit department is stuck in the 1960s!
Coppertone score! I do love a good homemade chikin pot pie. I make a pretty good one if’n I do say so myself.
AskNott I had all the windows in da cave replaced at one time. They did it in a day, one window at a time. It will be a bit noisy, but if the folk doin’ yours are anything like the folk that did mine, they’ll work quickly and efficiently.
“Mush is boring.” Think of it as Polenta! Have a little chianti.
I’d rather have bean soup, thanks…
FCD just got a text saying we owed $19 and change to SunPass. Ok, first off, we don’t now, nor ever had a SunPass. Secondly, I doubt that they send out bills via text. Thirdly, he got his phone number after leaving Florida so even if we’d had an account, it wouldn’t have been on a Merrylande phone.
Scammy McScammypants.
Throw in chicken broth & onions, and you have my bare minimum household staples, at least as far as non-critter supplies.
Well, Sunday at work my not-really-grumpy co-worker asked me out of boredom, “Hey, you. What’s up?”
I said, “I have brand-new pants, THAT FIT, a brand-new kerchief that a kind Mumper had gotten knitted for me, and not one but TWO fresh Sharpies in my apron pocket, one of which is a pretty shade of blue.”
His eyes glazed over at all that, but whatever, I was happy. I didn’t tell him all the worries & woes on my brain … I figured finding 3 things for which I could be grateful was gud enuf.
(The pants have SUNFLOWERS on them! Loose and flowy, very comfy. No pockets, of course, but you can’t have everything & that’s what my apron is for.)
We use Sharpies at work and I got tired of using the same basic red/navy/black, not to mention babysitting the damn caps that everyone kept losing, so a while ago I got a 12?-pack of rainbow colors off Amazon, IN CLICK TOP so no damn caps to lose.
Now I have aqua, purple, fuchsia, two shades of green … it actually helps sometimes to color-code labeled bags of items for bigger orders (“all the light green goes together, the bags marked in purple are a totally different order!”) which sometimes makes life easier for my crew and mostly, amuses me with
They’re MINE and live in my pocket. But everyone knows I have 'em.
… and can tell when I run the fryer, cuz everything is labeled in colors!
Monkey had an unpleasant interruption to his nap today, when he was stuffed into a (quite roomy - I used to have male Maine Coons & this could accommodate their giant fuzzbutts) carrier & hauled off to …
… The Vet.
Dah DUMMM!
He got a jab in the butt (rabies vax, mostly as a legal CYA) and a thorough checking-over. The vet answered my concerns (I had a coupla questions about his eyes) and said he was at a good weight but to watch that he didn’t gain more - I’m sure that woman sees some fat-ass spoiled bowling balls with feet - and he was otherwise pronounced to be in excellent health.
He was relatively well-behaved for a terrified cat - lots of howling, but no biting or scratching - and was immediately given some gooshy-fud upon home arrival to soothe his wounded soul.
Did you know cats have sweat glands, but only on their feets?
Which means a nervous cat will leave wet pawprints on the exam table.
On the plus side, erranding went relatively smoothly and I made it home safe. Buddy’s vet moved out of state, so when I picked up his prescription refill, they asked me if I had a preference for his new doctor. I asked for the one Allie saw for her checkup, since Allie really liked her (and the Princess is not good with strangers as a rule). Buddy’s facing a couple of appointments in the near future. Hmmm, really should email VCA and find out if those can be merged to save Buddy a car trip.
On the not-so-plus side, I am VERY achy today. We’re expecting a pretty sharp drop in temperatures after today, so maybe it’s the weather shift?
Afternoon all. Got to swimming early and since the jacuzzi/whirlpool is out of order (parts have been ordered, we have been told…) I did more time swimming, so got a 1.5 mile day in. Now need to get dressed in about a half-hour for soccer practice and then stop at Wendy’s for a double and fries (Sunday and Monday are my conspicuous consumption days; the rest of the week is counting calories carefully). Nice day and about 85F outside, so hot but not Hot f you know what I mean.
Legend, hardly watch any murder/detective shows anymore, except when I visit my brother when that seems to be all that they watch. And while the Doc says not worry, keep an eye on things, ya hear?
Cookie, hope the gent recovers, major bone breakage at that age is not a good thing.
Cupcakes, I’d find another store if I was you; that one seems to be unable to get out of it’s own way. The store credit card would be in my shredder by now. Don’t blame you a bit for ranting.
flyboy, glad things are nominal in the health department. And conga-rats on the lottery win.
Coppertone, sounds like you’ll be eating well for the next couple of days.
AskNott, welcome if this is your first time on the MMP, and I got my windows replaced in one day (ranch house, about 12-13 windows).
shoe, hopefully will be getting some new slacks via Amazon today that will fit my new (semi-svelte) body. And colored Shapies for the win!
Nettie., hope the aches go away.
And now time to put on the gym shorts and the t-shirt and go forth to teach (and yell at) a group of 8 year olds. At least I can give them back to their parents when I’m done…

It was legit cold here this morning! Woot! Right now it’s a lovely 77°F and sunny, with low humidity and a breeze. We’re officially in DC’s “you’ll need a coat in the morning but shorts in the afternoon” season, which I don’t really mind.
As for good stuff, at the moment I’m focused on next week’s staycation. I think I have the right balance of plans and no plans (much more of the latter), and the two Lego sets I’ll be assembling got delivered on Friday. I’m also mostly done rearranging/reorganizing the house (an album holder gets delivered tomorrow, for placement next to the turntable; I think that’ll be the last tweak), so that background process should stop running in my brain by the weekend.
I just have to get through this week… It should be alright, if a little on the busy side: in addition to the day job, tomorrow evening I have a personal training session, Wednesday morning I’m dropping my car off for some overdue but routine maintenance (hooray for shuttle services!), Thursday afternoon I have a virtual voice lesson, and Friday at 5pm I’ll be kicking off my staycation by going to my local CVS for flu + COVID shots.
Today’s mail brought my very first jury questionnaire. I’ve only ever received one jury duty summons, ~25 years ago (shortly after I moved to Virginia), but back then I didn’t get any kind of questionnaire first. I also didn’t have to show up, after calling the number on the summons the night before. This questionnaire – which I filled out online – puts me in a pool of possible candidates for jury duty in 2025. I wouldn’t mind doing it once. I guess it’s good to know that I haven’t been forgotten about…?
I’m in!
Hmm…do you think that would be Brandywine-ish?
Yeah, they’re bumping up the number of election officers here, too – including having two provisional ballot specialists per precinct instead of the usual one, which is a great idea. Our March and June primaries were low-turnout, but I think November will be kind of nuts. It’ll be my second presidential election, but the last one was only 8 months into the pandemic and a lot of folks voted early and/or by mail. Early and absentee voting numbers have remained elevated, but I do think there will be a lot of in-person voting this fall.
(BTW: I think your user name is a city in Italy, but I’m a jazz singer and it makes me think of the Jobim song “Triste”…which means I’ll wind up with a nice earworm every time I see you post. )
Awww, that’s so awesome! Secretly, my favorite voters are always the first-time teens and new citizens (who each get hearty rounds of applause) and the very elderly. A few elections ago I was able to help a 101-year-old woman vote; she had also voted in every election she was allowed to. That was pretty darn cool.
Don’t make me send a Life Alert to your house!!1!
( )
My Amazon Echo Pop arrived today; I’ll set it up after dinner (which I’m thinking might be pizza and a pickle*). I expect to use it as often as I used the Google Nest Mini – i.e., hardly ever – but I’ll like knowing it’s there. And listening…always listening…
*not a euphemism
I think this is the “good” to beat…
Boooo!
I’m blaming the temp change for the fact that I’ve been kinda snotty and sinus-y all day. I also refuse to turn the heat on yet, so the last two mornings the house was pretty cold…which prolly doesn’t help the ol’ mucous membranes. Ah, well.
Oh, I don’t mean to imply we skipped merrily out of his office, never to return! He gets blood tests every 6 weeks and an injection and infusion every 12, and he takes daily medication. However, we were thinking that the medications he’s on were losing efficacy (something that’s almost certain to happen eventually), but the doctor doesn’t think it’s happening yet.
I went down to the corner market to cash in my winnings. I pulled out of the driveway and went to the beach. A UPS truck was signalling to turn up our street. When I got back from the store, there was a big ol’ (61.6 pounds) box in front of the front door. The Spousal Unit goes out into the catio to read her bible every morning. With cooler weather coming, she wanted a place to sit in her room. So she bought a Serta chair. I haven’t opened the box, but I think the chair needs to be assembled.
To make room for the chair, she moved the cats’ mini-tree to next to the front door. (The other tree is by the back door.) Goo, especially, likes having a perch where she can look out of the bug front window. Sometimes she’d sit on the little kitty pedestal, but she’d really diggin’ the tree. Abbey went over and scratched on it this morning, instead of scratching the chair or ottoman.
Brandywine - where Costco is??? It’s about 27 miles from me - similar for you? There are a number of options there for lunch perhaps?
The mush was proclaimed good, but as I did some more research on recipes, it turns out the one I picked was not that great. So, next time I’ll try another recipe, and I may try the air fryer, maybe. As for me, I had the bean soup. Fried mush holds no appeal for me.
Sad to hear that James Earl Jones died. Of all the roles he’s had, one of my favorites was his appearance as himself on The Big Bang Theory - it cracked me up!!! The world has lost an amazing voice.
I actually got the name from the deep diving submersible I got a marine science degree back in the 70’s. Plus I used to scuba dive a lot.

This will be my first Presidential race that I’ve served. And our turnout for June was maybe 35 people.

Well, I got hold of some corporate official and they said they would cancel some of the fees and interest charged but said I stil owed $31. I said I wouldn’t pay. I was told my payment must have been lost in the mail, because if they had recieved it they would have processed it. I said my credit card had been in the same envelope, cut into four pieces. and they said that I couldn’t canel my account that way, it had to be done by voice. So I canceled the account of course.
I never uttered a profanity but the corporate person sounded rather impatient. I’m waiting until I get the statement with the $31 charge, then I will call back and ask for the mailing address of the company CEO. Think they will give it to me?
BTW, the company bank is Wells Fargo and I have never heard a good thing about them.
To give her credit, the store manager of the place where all this started did seem like she went to some effort to put me in touch with someone higher up the food chain. When I’m sure I’ll be contesting this further I will put in a good word for her.
cupcakes Have you looked at your checking account to see if the checks have been cashed? My tiny little credit union will show all the transactions in the online portal.
Would that be a roost pie?
That just leaves more of them for me.
That’s the same recipe that my mom made. She’d put meringue on the big (10") pie and whipped cream on a 7" pie for those of us who weren’t fond of meringue (Dad, little bro and me).
One of my HS friends and her husband stayed with me for a few days in my last apartment. Since I had to work for a couple of those days, they were playing tourist. She mentioned going to Graceland the following day one evening at supper and I asked if they’d be getting a room there or driving back the same day. She was clueless and did a spit take when I told her that it was 3.5-4 hours away.
IBC&J? I belonged to that when I worked in the flooring factory.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et. Excitement abounds!
Former IB popped into my area today. She had issues with something listed in my location in the box she was carrying. It took me three times to explain product movement to her for a department that she worked in for 20 years, 3 as an operator, 7 as a lead and 10 as a supervisor. She couldn’t understand why that item shouldn’t be there, so I also had to show her the SKU legend that showed that it was a different market phone. Sheesh!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
I hope things get better soon.
This is going to be a good week, Jolene is going to get fixed. Again. She’s also going to be a year old next week, I think she’s going to stay dinky.
The day was beautiful and when the fuzzbutts went to help Hubs take his nap, I shut the door and opened the french doors to enjoy the cool air. We gotta get some screen doors installed. At least these are standard sized doors so we probably won’t need to have them custom made this time.
Are you still tolerating them well? Here’s hoping that once they are done, you will be in total remission for the rest of your very long life.
One of the reasons I wanted to move here was because of the abundance of rain. I feel cheated.
Those are the worse cause you gots nobody to blame but yourself. I hope it gets sorted soonist.
My father was in road construction and he didn’t see any reason for any of us to keep going to school after we were 16. Mom disagreed and we all were expected to graduate high school before getting married.
I joined the AF and used my GI bill to get my MLS. That I used for about 8 years. Good investment there, right?
Hubs went to trade school and used that all of his working life.
Our plumber is 24 years old and owns a house on three acres and is able to support a toddler and SAHM.
I don’t miss that. It is so nice to just be able to mow everything.
There is a neighborhood lawn spat going on a mile or so away. One of the neighbors always mows in straight lines up and down his yard. The neighbor with the attached yard (no fence) mows sideways or diagonally and then uses his strimmer to clean up the grass he missed by not crossing their border. I admire his pettiness and have nicknamed him Tom.
I’ve been spending a lot less time looking at screens since we moved here. I’m still wasting a lot of time because I zone out starting at the forest, but that’s OK, I’m a RDOS, what else do I have to do.
I hope all works out for your husband.
Neato! Do be warned that they will take taxes out so you won’t get that much.
Hurray for you and do report back with the results. We are going to be having all of ours done and they said they would pull all of the windows out before putting new ones in. The cats and I are spending the day at a motel.
We are having 14 done and they promised they would be finished the same day. Of course, all of our windows are on the ground floor. Our last place didn’t have east or west facing windows (too much desert heat for that) so we only had 9 done and they were done around 4.
When you do it, put out the money for double hung windows. It is so nice to not have to drag a ladder around the outside of you house when you want to wash the outsides. Plus you can just do a few or even one at a time because you don’t have to drag the ladder out of the shed and put it away each time.
Look at your paperwork. Our last windows came with a 25 year guarantee and the ones we are having put in now have a lifetime guarantee. You might get a happy surprise.
NOOOO!!!
I’m glad he got a good report, did she say what was going on with his eyes or were you just being a worrywart (like I am)?
I can tell the weather with my hip, doesn’t surprise me that you can feel it too. I think its more because the air pressure changes, I used to get achy in Flagstaff as well.
I turned my waterbed heater on, it is getting cold at night!!!
If you get called for jury selection, wear layers. In my experience, court rooms are always cold. Bring a paper book because sometimes they don’t allow tech toys.
So today I put some whipped cream in the freezer and then took a torch to it. The surface turned a lovely gold color before sliding off. I should probably have some food colors in the pantry any how, I do use them.
I got some good news today, but I am still completely confused. I guess I just don’t understand knees. This doctor said that the baker’s cyst is due to significant arthritis in my knee joint. I asked about another MRI and the idea of surgery. He told me that there is no repair that would work (I think?), but that once my insurance approves that I can get gel injections and that should make the pain go away.
I am grateful for anything that will make the pain go away, but I kinda had a meltdown after I got back to the car. It has been an emotional issue for the last 12 years and that hasn’t changed. I’ve just basically been exhausted the rest of the day since then.
After my appointment we went and bought new chairs for my mom and myself that will be easier for us to get out of. We did not end up needing lift chairs, but found recliners that will meet our needs instead. Our old couch is disappearing on Wednesday and the new chairs will be delivered Thursday. Our couch is gigantic and I am totally looking forward to it disappearing!
More later when I can think again…
